5 scenarios for the OpTic Texas season

0

OpTic Gaming has always been in the Call of Duty esports spotlight. There’s no reason to believe the 2022 Call of Duty League season will be any different.

that’s why The Dallas Morning News has five major storylines for the next season of OpTic Texas. Let this serve as foresight and expectation, as the list formed has ambitious goals.

Let’s start.

Can OpTic win its own major?

OpTic Texas is the first host this season for the major in March at Esports Arlington Stadium. This could be the biggest on-pitch advantage in North American esports history given that Envy Gaming now owns the ESA exploitation rights.

This will be the stadium of OpTic and OpTic fans in a major CDL, hosted by the green wall. But the question is whether Seth “Scump” Abner and company can win the thing.

The CDL talent pool is stronger than ever. Texas head coach Ray “Rambo” Lussier predicted the competition will improve from an impressive 2021 presented by CDL teams. OpTic lost to the Los Angeles Thieves in the Kickoff Classic, but Lussier was pleased with his team’s response.

But any major this season will have to come through Atlanta FaZe and the Toronto Ultra. 2021 world champions Atlanta and Kickoff Classic winner Toronto remain the top two teams in the league. OpTic can reach those heights, but doing so in time for March could be tricky.

Ex-Dallas Empire guys need to evolve after Crimsix and Clayster

James “Clayster” Eubanks and Ian “Crimsix” Porter teamed up again, this time with the New York Subliners. Their veteran leadership, knowledge of the game and championship experience helped the Empire win a championship in 2020.

Eubanks was dealt to New York ahead of the 2021 season after the 4-for-4 change was implemented in the CDL. Dallas parted ways with Porter before the Envy-OpTic merger.

Now Anthony “Shotzzy” Cuevas-Castro and Indervir “iLLeY” Dhaliwal can truly prove their elite status with a successful season alongside Abner and Otell. Cuevas-Castro is a multi-esport champion and Dhaliwal was in the Call of Duty esports scene long before CDL came along, he was just underage.

OpTic Texas should be an elite search and destroy team

Scump is an iconic search and destroy player to match his status as the most popular Call of Duty pro. Despite OpTic Chicago’s ups and downs in play mode, with more downs than ups, Abner was still effective.

Considering iLLeY’s research prowess, Lussier’s desire for core gameplay, and the roster’s talent, there’s no reason OpTic shouldn’t be one of the best in the mode. Game.

Call of Duty: VanguardRespawn modes are lightning fast. How teams adapt from respawning to seeking will always play a part in CoD esports, but OpTic has the recipe to show up in both.

If OpTic cleans up their gameplay from their loss to the Rogues, they have everything they need to be a complete team.

How much does Scump have in the tank?

Scump’s retirement would be the biggest news of Call of Duty. This script isn’t there to suggest that’s happening, but it’s closer to the end of his career than the beginning. Maybe all esports. A magnitude 10 earthquake Call of Duty.

There’s no reason to think he’s going to retire given the way Abner has played in the recent past. He has a strong squad around him with young talent and players eager to grind the game.

The answer to this story could very well be no, Scump is not retiring after this season. But it’s already being talked about among pros and pundits alike, as he’s 26 – the third-oldest player in the league. Only Porter, 28, and Eubanks, 29, have been around longer.

It’s not the time to worry yet for OpTic enthusiasts, but it’s something to watch out for. Abner is a mainstay in Call of Duty, and the game would change forever without him appearing.

Will OpTic be able to wear the white jerseys?

The white jerseys are for the championships. OpTic got one to its name in 2017 and has been chasing the same glory ever since.

Otell doesn’t have a ring yet, and the rest of the list only has one. There’s no reason to believe it’s not as motivated as these players have ever been to win a title. The route goes through Atlanta FaZe, but there are young talents and other elite teams clamoring for a CDL ring.

Winning a title this season will depend on two major elements. Preparation and timing. Lussier has a lot of CoD talent and smarts to work with. The preparation is realistic. Timing is always the hardest part.

Peaking at Champs is every team’s goal. This is how OpTic puts on the white jerseys again.
