Santini Cycling Wear and Unipublic have presented the official La Vuelta 22 leader jerseys. Four kits designed and manufactured by Santini have also been unveiled for the flagship stages of the iconic race which runs from August 19 to September 11 this year.

“We are delighted to be dressing the great champions of La Vuelta again this year,” said Monica Santini, CEO of Santini Cycling Wear, “and to be here today at this event to celebrate six years of very successful partnership. .”

There will be five official 2022 jerseys instead of the usual four at this year’s Vuelta a España: the leaders of the classification of the first three stages in Holland will wear a special La Roja in tribute to the host cities: Breda, ‘s-Hertogenbosch and Utrecht .

The red jersey for these scenes was designed by fashion designer Mattijs van Bergen, whose clients include the Queen of the Netherlands, Máxima Zorreguieta Cerruti from Orange-Nassau. He was inspired by the emblems of the three Dutch cities La Vuelta passes through – using red and white patterns, lines and blocks. These are combined with the blue of the Dutch flag to create a grid on the shirt.

Once the “caravan” returns to Spanish territory, the overall leader will take on the traditional La Roja jersey sponsored by Carrefour, while the points leader will wear the green jersey with the Škoda logo. The Plénitude white jersey will go to the best young rider and the polka dot jersey sponsored by Loterías y Apuestas del Estado will be worn by the king of the mountain.

All leader jerseys have been produced in Santini’s Italian factory using sustainable materials: Ecofabric RECY by Corno made from recycled yarns from recovered and recycled materials, and Native – Ecoknit by Sitip. Santini adds that it is also made from recycled fibers and yarns without the use of polluting chemicals to reduce consumption of natural resources and reliance on non-renewable energy.

Javier Guillén, General Manager of La Vuelta, said: “Following a successful six-year collaboration which has been beneficial for both parties, the shirts are the sign of identity of the race, in particular the leader’s jersey of La Roja. These, along with the special commemorative editions, make us truly proud that Santini dresses our champions.

In addition to the official jerseys, every year Santini manufactures several special kits dedicated to specific stages of La Vuelta and comprising a jersey, shorts, socks and gloves.

The Asturias kit celebrates the eighth stage of the Spanish race which crosses the northern region and has a new finish line in Colláu Fancuaya: the yellow and blue colors of the region’s flag set the tone for the Santini kit dedicated to this stage.

The 10th stage of La Vuelta 22 is a 31.1 kilometer time trial between Elche and Alicante. This kit was inspired by the Muralla Roja, a post-modern building on the Alicante coast designed by architect Ricardo Bofil in the early 1970s.

Dedicated to the queen of this edition of La Vuelta, the Sierra Nevada kit celebrates this difficult climb. The white and green of the Andalusian flag served as inspiration. The kit will also feature a design inspired by the statue of the Virgen de las Nieves (Madonna of the Snows) at the top of the Hoya de la Mora climb.

The finish line of La Vuelta 22 is in Madrid, featured on the Santini kit dedicated to the final stage. It features the city’s coat of arms of a bear and a strawberry tree, of which there is a statue in the Plaza de la Puerta del Sol. The kit is red – the color of La Vuelta – with a touch of orange as a nod to the Netherlands, host of the first three stages of the race.

Santini has also created accessories to coordinate with these kits: a jacket, a wind vest and a cap with a multicolored multi-striped pattern. For leisure, there is also a white t-shirt with colored stripes.

Replicas of the leader’s jerseys and the four special kits will be available for purchase on the Santini website and in select cycling stores around the world.
