Wednesday night at 7:13 p.m., the Rockets officially unveiled their blue City Edition jerseys for the upcoming 2020-21 NBA season. This era, of course, is a nod to Houston’s oldest area code.

Houston had space-themed City jerseys in 2019-20, but this blue set will replace those this season. Like last year’s white city uniforms, this blue version has “H-Town” on the front in red letters.

For a team whose primary color has been red throughout most of its history, the choice of light blue certainly attracts attention. The Rockets briefly had navy blue uniforms in the late 1990s, but this represents the secondary color of that era, rather than the primary color. Light blue is also linked to former Houston Oilers of the National Football League (NFL).

In addition to dropping the 2019-20 City jersey, the Rockets are also losing the Nike version of the classic uniforms, which were in place as a one-year tribute to the 25th anniversary of the 1994-95 title team. These will be replaced with a new Earned Edition uniform for 2020-21, which has yet to be released. The jerseys won are given to playoffs.

In all, Houston should have five sets of shirts: the Red Icon; White association; black Statement; blue city; and the whole won.
