Predict the 2022 reverse retro jerseys for each team in the Metropolitan Division

0

The Reverse Retro jersey program returns to the NHL for its second edition in the upcoming 2022-23 NHL season, and we here at The Win Column are currently in the process of predicting each team’s new Reverse Retro design. .

In case you missed it, here are our predictions on what the Pacific Division, Atlantic Division, and Central Division jerseys might look like.

Metropolitan Division Reverse Retro Concepts

Today, we’re going to take one last look at what the reverse retros of the Metropolitan Division could ideally be.

New York Islanders

Although the team is unlikely to actually release the fisherman, it should be an obvious choice for the New York Islanders. The fisherman is what Islanders fans and even around the NHL have been craving and the Islanders are burning through cash that could be theirs if they chose to release something like my mockup above.

The major change I made here was that I wanted to see what a more modernized version of the jersey could look like, so instead of including the waves the original jersey had for the stripes, I opted to follow the Seattle example and I used a faded gradient instead. I think it gives the jersey a bit more class, which seems to be something the islanders are very concerned about having.

New York Rangers

The New York Rangers walked out of the stadium in their first reverse retro jersey as they brought Lady Liberty home. With few options to choose from, I opted to just do the white version of the same jersey they used last time. Although instead of using navy I chose to pay homage to the original lighter color palette of the Rangers that they used in the 1920s.

New Jersey Devils

The New Jersey Devils are rumored to be honoring the defunct Kansas City Scouts with their reverse retro second jerseys, while using their own logo.

I also chose to do things a little differently by using their unused prototype logo that was released alongside their official team name announcement. With the Devils now 40 years after that announcement, I think it would be fun to give that logo a chance to shine!

Philadelphia Flyers

For the Philadelphia Flyers, I referred to another team in Philadelphia hockey history: the Philadelphia Quakers. While it might work more like a heritage jersey, I think it would be quite popular with Philadelphia fans and give them something very unique to enjoy.

Pittsburgh Penguins

I chose to play it safe with the Pittsburgh Penguins. I know a lot of fans want to see the return of the “Robo-Penguin” but it’s become pretty clear over the past few years that team ownership has no interest in bringing that logo or jersey back, and unlike the Fisherman, I don’t think it’s even that great…

Instead, I chose to use the Winter Classic 2011 jersey as inspiration, which draws from various parts of Penguins history. What I did to change things up here was remove all the blue and keep it simple by only using the now classic yellow and black teams.

If the team chooses to go another direction with their retro reverse jersey, I might see them using something like this for their next Winter Classic jersey as well.

Washington Capitals

Like the Rangers, I think it’s pretty safe to say the Washington Capitals did a phenomenal job with their previous Reverse Retro jersey. So, as with Rangers, I opted to reverse their previous shirt and create the white version. There are rumors that the team could bring back their teal and gold. But I’d rather the Capitals use their modern red and blue like last time.

If Washington were to bring a jersey like this to the ice, I seriously hope they deck it out with their latest reverse retro and make it their official home and travel location sometime soon.

Carolina Hurricanes

The Carolina Hurricanes had very few options to choose from, and I think they already did everything they could with the Whalers jersey, so I opted to create a white version of their original alternate. of Warning Flag.

Columbus Blue Jackets

The Blue Jackets have arguably one of the best third jerseys in the NHL. If I had my way, they would take these third parties, and this reverse retro concept here and make it their official home and travels.
