NHL teams, players and fans got a glimpse of the future on Monday.
The adidas reverse retro jerseys unveiled – the look of the new jersey for each of the 31 NHL teams inspired by part of the team’s history – was a huge hit on social media.
Fans were showing love in their favorite jerseys. And the players seem to feel the same.
There were a lot of fire emojis to go through, one from the Colorado avalanche ahead Nazem Kadri for their jerseys inspired by the Quebec Nordiques and three from the captain of the Columbus Blue Jackets Nick foligno for their redesigned color palette.
When the Pittsburgh Penguins showed off their new look with the city’s famous name on the diagonal, the forward Bryan Rustmouth watering.
Calgary Flames forward Matthew Tkachuk endorsed the return of “Blasty,” the flame-breathing horse logo that the Flames began wearing in 1998.
New York Rangers defenseman Tony DeAngelo touted the return of the Statue of Liberty logo, which New York City originally wore from 1996 to 2007.
Goalkeeper Ryan Miller is a veteran enough to have worn the original Buffalo Sabers jerseys that inspired their new look. And he said hello to a former teammate, Danny Brière, in the wake.
The teams also had fun with the new looks. The New Jersey Devils photoshopped their green Reverse Retro jersey onto the green jacket that Dustin Johnson, 2020 Masters champion and future son-in-law of Wayne Gretzky, won on Sunday.
They also added another iconic green reference with a Kermit the Frog message.
The Arizona Coyotes opted for ’90s graphics on their Reverse Retro jersey video.
The buzz surrounding the new jerseys was enough to make a hockey fan dance with joy. But you don’t need to select “Brass Bonanza”. The Carolina Hurricanes have done it before.
