VANCOUVER –

British Columbia teenager is recovering from serious injuries caused by violent robbery in Kelowna, police say.

The local RCMP detachment said the boy was cycling along the Rail Trail earlier this week when he was approached by two men described by police as “passing through”.

In a press release, police said the boy was assaulted and the men fled with his cell phone, bicycle and shoes. The attack took place in broad daylight. The 17-year-old was riding along the popular trail around 3 p.m. at the time.

The two suspects fled, mounted police said, and remained elusive even after police dogs were brought to the scene. The teenager’s bike and shoes were found near the creek, police said.

The boy suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries and had to be taken to hospital.

According to Castanet.net, these injuries included a fractured skull and a punctured lung.

The mother of one of the boy’s friends identified him in Castanet as “Dallas” and said he was living on his own and supporting himself. An injury that means he could be absent from work for a while will be financially difficult for him, she said.

Police have not confirmed these details, but provided descriptions of the suspects in a statement Wednesday.

The first is white and is estimated to be around 20 years old. According to the RCMP, he is approximately 5’7 “with an average build and light blond” Mohawk style hair. “At the time of the assault, he was wearing a blue jacket and was on a white bicycle.

The gendarmes said he could have injuries to his right cheek.

The second man is only described as white. He was wearing a black hoodie and a black or dark gray backpack, police said.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Ministry’s General Investigative Services team or call Crime Stoppers anonymously.
