I live in Maine and haven’t owned a winter jacket for 10 years

I know what you are thinking … is this girl crazy? Maine has subzero temperatures with Northeasters hitting more than Snoop hits his bang.

I guess the honest answer is that I was lazy and thought my skin was thick enough to cope with the cold, not to mention the choices are endless.

Are you also a Mainer who has the same issues?

Buying a winter jacket is not a simple task, there are a lot of things you need to take into consideration.

Should you opt for the traditional North Face, Carhart or LL bean down jacket? What if you wanted a more unique look like Steve Buscemi’s sheepskin coat from Fargo? How about the fur coat that Emma Stone rocked in “Cruella” so fearlessly? Could you ride with Taxi Driver’s Robert De Niro campaign jacket? Or something a little more romantic, like Humphrey Bogart’s trench coat from Casablanca? It’s too much pressure!

A jacket for every day, which means that a jacket has to go with every look different?

How to commit to just one? It’s not like I can call my stylist to send me a range of Billie Eilish Puffy Jackets.

Jackets aren’t the only thing the Mainers don’t wear

There is also this underground group of flip flops all year round. The members don’t know each other, however, I have met so many Mainers who wear flip flops or sandals in the winter, in the snow, and feel great. I believe after living in Maine for a while, the skin on your feet probably thickens.

Do these flip flops appreciate the cold on the feet or are they just simply unable to find a pair of winter boots because there is so much to choose from? Don’t get me started on my boots. We will be here all day.

I know someday I’ll find the jacket of my dreams, but until then I suffer from the cold, I wear hoodies and when it’s really cold I take that neon 90s windbreaker that my mom saved because of his “sentimental value”. She saves everything.
