Did a bunch of new 2022-23 NBA jerseys just leak online?

Sixers fans have their sights almost exclusively formed on James Harden’s Friday debut as Joel Embiid’s running mate, and for good reason. It’s going to be an amazing evening.

But while we have a few days between the NBA All-Star Game and the return of the games, an exciting reported leak that has less to do with substance and more with style has fans buzzing.

A photo of 40 (!) jerseys, which are supposed to be unreleased designs coming in the 2022-23 NBA season, hit the internet this week and everyone who loves league fashion is ecstatic.

Before we go any further, we should qualify: these aren’t confirmed designs yet. They could be changed before the start of next season, so take it all with a grain of salt.

But there are plenty of reasons to believe these are the real things, so let’s get to it.

Here’s a tweet with low-res images of some of the leaked jersey designs, courtesy of Chris Creamer at SportsLogos.net:

You can find the full leak in Creamer’s article.

The leaks come at least in part from Twitter user @skunwong32, who has a story of get uniform leaks to the right in the old days. They’ve nailed plenty of 2021-22 uniforms months before their official reveal, so it should be pretty nice to trust this series of leaks.

Quickly, the best here for me are the Hawks and Spurs City Edition designs, and the Nets and Heat Classic Edition looks. Glorious.

Now let’s take a closer look at the Sixers’ alleged City Edition leak:

I… don’t hate it? But it looks unfinished. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of them have different details when all is said and done.

I like the idea in theory of using the “Brotherly Love” script word mark that the Sixers have used in the past and turning it into a design that’s featured front and center on the chest. I also like the offbeat numbers – it’s a different look for the fairly traditional Sixers uniform set – thought I’m not crazy about the number font itself.

However, I would be extremely surprised if the whole jersey design was little more than a white canvas, red script and numbers, and maybe a bit of piping.

It also looks a bit like a mix of the excellent City 2018-19 edition with the blue “Phila” script on parchment uniforms and the classic 2019-2020 edition with the “Seventy-Sixers” word mark. I liked both very much; this design makes it look like something is missing.

Either way, regardless of the design, I’m sure the Harden #1 jersey will be a bestseller in the Delaware Valley.
