If we know one thing Deion Sanders is set to win, it’s that he looks good.

The Jackson State football coach gave a preview of the highly anticipated new JSU football uniforms on Tuesday morning. Sanders showed off white and blue jerseys as well as a red via his 21st and Prime Instagram.

“It all goes together, man. That’s exactly how we feel that day, â€Sanders said as he rummaged through the jerseys. “How do we feel? I feel blue today.

New uniforms are still a big deal in 2021, but for the Jackson State program, it’s more than just a new look. Football uniforms represent the start of a brand new image since Deion Sanders was hired as head coach.

JSU had been in a deal with Nike for less than three years when he started suing Sanders last year. Sanders had a strong desire to coach, but he was also very loyal to Under Armor.

As one of the faces of the NFL in the 1990s, Sanders was also one of Nike’s top sponsors along with Michael Jordan in basketball and Ken Griffey Jr. in baseball. Eventually, things turned sour between the two and Sanders began a relationship with Under Armor. This relationship was so close that one of the conditions for Sanders to accept the job was a move from Under Armor to Nike (first reported by HBCU Gameday).

A move from Nike to Under Armor wouldn’t just involve the football program, but JSU athletics as a whole. Of course, Sanders was hired and was not pictured wearing Nike gear. Weeks later he announced that JSU is now with Under Armor and the rest is history. Troy Johnson, AD assistant for JSU internal operations, later confirmed the move and spoke about the benefits of what direct agreement with the company meant for JSU.

These jerseys symbolize Sanders’ impact on JSU outside of Xs and Os. Very few coaches could have gotten an entire sports department to switch clothing brands and help them get a better deal to boot. Sanders was active throughout the uniform selection process. He also recognized the importance of bringing red back into Jackson State jerseys, something that was introduced by recently deceased coach WC Gorden.

The jersey has a clean, solid look that always goes a long way. But jerseys have only been part of JSU’s new branding since Sanders arrived.
