A video from the Warriors Color Commentator Kelenna Azubuike criticizes Hornets rookie LaMelo Ball for using the same 3-point celebration as NBA legend Carmelo Anthony sparked an internet debate that lasted for several days. Paired with the use of the celebration was the (mostly friendly) joke of who the real Melo is with both Carmelo and LaMelo sporting the nickname.

Everything was particularly timely as the Hornets and Ball faced Anthony and the Blazers on Monday. The original Melo quickly shut down any potential debate by greet Ball before the match and pick him up after the match to exchange shirts in the field.

“I think LaMelo is someone who is going to be in this game for a long time, so the name Melo, you might as well keep using it.” Anthony said after the game. “I don’t go into that, though. For me, it’s a matter of respect. It’s an honor for him to have that name, for him to kiss her, for him to party. It’s an honor, it’s a blessing, it’s a thing of respect to me. I hug him.

“It was good,†Ball added of interactions with Anthony. “I mean, (that was) pretty much all love, showing respect both ways.”

The two Melos showed up on Monday. Anthony scored 29 points, a season-high, to lead the Blazers to both a 3-point franchise record and a resounding victory. Ball, however, had his own big night, finishing with 30 points, eight assists, six rebounds, four steals, becoming the youngest player in NBA history to reach such a stat line.
