Y-3, the trendy sportswear line from Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto and Adidas, looks to another offshoot of the Three Stripes banner ahead of winter.
In collaboration with Adidas Terrex, Y-3 is launching an all-new sneaker silhouette that’s as menacing in appearance as it is in function. The Swift R3 GTX features a GORE-Tex liner and membrane for waterproofing as well as a Continental outsole preferred in the outdoor space for traction in wet and dry conditions. To keep your feet safe, a large lacing system is combined with a zipper, under which is a neoprene gusset that will wrap you like a sock.
The Swift R3 GTX will be offered in an equally attractive “Bold Orange†and white color scheme as the name suggests, along with a predominantly black version more in line with the dark aesthetic of Y-3. Either should hold you back for the bitter months to come, and it’s never too early to start thinking about your shoes for sleet, snow, and salt.
Two new jackets are also on the way – The small Adidas Terrex capsule from Y-3 will also include two jackets equipped with GORE-TEX to accompany you throughout fall and winter. The Rugged GTX Jacket is ideal for wind and rain and is made with a 100% recycled nylon plain weave. The Melton GTX Down parka is better suited to the most intense conditions, which uses waterproof GORE-TEX Melton wool along with nylon and 90% goose down insulation.
While the jacket looks more like an outdoor piece, the parka features a healthy drape to combine a city-ready look with high-level winter functionality. The two also hide pocket bags attached with duct tape, which are stored inside the zippered side pockets.
Pricing has yet to be announced for the waterproof gear stealth capsule, but all three pieces will be available on October 14 through the Y-3 website, Adidas’ Confirmed app and physical stores, and some other retailers. If you tend to favor black in favor of color, whatever the season, these might be the best winter clothes you can find this year.
