Originally intended as a minor supporting character opposite Ron Howard’s Richie Cunningham on Happy Days (1974 to 1984), Arthur “Fonzie” Fonzarelli has become one of the most famous television characters in the history of the media. Played by Henry Winkler, the Fonz had a signature sartorial style, including a brown leather jacket that he even wore while waterskiing for the series’ infamous “jump the shark” scene.
Winkler wore a few jackets on the show, one of which resides in the Smithsonian. But another that Winkler has kept as a keepsake will soon be auctioned. On December 8, Bonhams will be offering a full Fonzie wardrobe, including the jacket, blue jeans, a white t-shirt and boots that complete Winkler’s greaser look.
The price for having Fonzie’s closet in your own home? About $ 50,000 to $ 70,000.
Winkler said Hollywood journalist that the COVID-19 pandemic gave him time to search his personal belongings. The result is a wealth of memories from his long career, including two Ghostface masks from the years 1996. Scream (Winkler played the lead role) which could range from $ 20,000 to $ 30,000 each. Other clothes from Happy Days, Night watch (1982), and others will also be available. Bonhams also offers a Fonzie motorcycle used in the series which could see offers of $ 80,000 to $ 120,000.
Winkler will donate a portion of the proceeds from its auctions to This Is About Humanity, a non-profit organization providing assistance to families separated on the U.S.-Mexico border.
Bonhams will close the auction on December 8.
