As temperatures continue to drop, many are looking for the perfect jacket to wear before breaking out in their heavy winter coats and down jackets. Even as winter is (unfortunately) approaching the corner, there is a jacket that I have personally searched over and over again in times of transition.
My trusty Lightweight Hooded Puffer from Amazon Essentials was purchased last October during Prime Day. The Transition Puffer has been my choice for fall and spring and has received thousands of reviews from Amazon customers.

What is that?
In addition to hosting products from hundreds of thousands of retailers, Amazon offers its own line of clothing called Amazon Essentials. The Lightweight Hooded Jacket is a machine washable, water-resistant jacket that makes a great transition option for spring and fall.
I bought a black puffer jacket for a weekend getaway to a chalet with my boyfriend and our friends last October. I’m a street size 6 but decided to take a size up and order a large just in case. I knew we were going to be spending a lot of time outside of hiking and canoeing and wanted something light with pockets that I could wear over a sweater or sweatshirt.
First impressions
I was happy with how quickly the ball arrived and was really impressed with its warmth despite how light it felt. The jacket comes with a small pocket so that you can easily store your jacket without taking up too much space in your bag or backpack.
I wore the jacket all weekend on hikes and around the campfire. When we got home I threw the jacket in the wash to get the smoke smell off my jacket and have washed it several times since!
What others say
I was very skeptical about buying an invisible sight jacket, but had no choice due to the lockdowns and the pandemic. It’s actually embarrassing how much I buy on Amazon, but no matter what I order, I always check customer reviews and search for products with hundreds or even thousands of reviews.
The Amazon Essentials Lightweight Hooded Puffer currently has a solid 4.3-star rating based on over 6,400 customer reviews. I felt good about my purchase after checking out what other Amazon buyers had to say about their puffer and if it was worth it.
“Wow, I’m so impressed and obsessed with this light puff! Wrote one Amazon buyer, complimenting the look on its “flattering fit” and quality material.
“It’s much better than expected,†wrote another. “It’s warm, light and has good quality zippers.”
Other shoppers said the jacket was perfect to layer with pullovers and sweatshirts for fall, while others praised Amazon for the style that gets compliments from passers-by.
While there are thousands of five-star reviews, some buyers have said they have issues with the fit of their jacket. Many have suggested taking one size up to avoid a tight and awkward fit, especially in the arms. Another concern was that it was difficult to store the jacket in the carrying pouch – but it wasn’t much of a concern to me and certainly not a dealbreaker not to place my order.
Verdict
I am very happy with my lightweight puffer jacket and very surprised that I was able to get a great fall and spring jacket on Amazon from all places. If you are looking for something sporty, you will definitely want to try a jacket designed for running or outdoor activities in breathable fabric, but polyester is suitable for me and my lifestyle.
My down jacket is now a sentimental garment for me; on our weekend getaway my boyfriend surprised me and suggested me on a morning hike. All of my photos from this day are of me wearing my Amazon jacket (of all things) but I love it and I love wearing it as a reminder of this day.
